“Magical Equations”
What else can mathematics offer us than just theorems, numbers and equations?
With his rational designs, visual artist Han Lammers translates mathematical equations into tangible three-dimensional images, often made of zinc.
This produces geometric, abstract work characterized by concrete and pure forms. In that sense, Lammers feels related to minimalism and constructivism. Because geometric shapes form the basis of his work, sculptures are created in which any form of coincidence and therefore surprise is excluded in advance. Lammers’ work is divided into solid, closed forms with a static character and more open and flowing forms with a dynamic (and sometimes lyrical) character.
Most of his works of art are outside in nature. The expression of the images changes with the seasons, because weather influences have an effect on the patina (oxide layer of the zinc). The formal character of the work is accentuated by the shadows and the incidence of light, which means that Lammers’ outdoor images stand in an exciting contrast with the organic forms of their natural context.
