The infinite grandeur and power and at the same time the fragility of nature form the basis for Lou Vos’ work. In her abstract paintings, works on paper and ceramics, fragments from nature, details, structures and shapes form the starting point for ‘new landscapes’. Not a literal translation but a research and experiment into the relationship between these powerful and vulnerable fine elements.
‘In her work, Lou Vos looks for balance between color, shape and surface division, but her work does not die in beauty. There is a sought-after imperfection in something that is worthy of protection due to the deviation. A vulnerability that we also encounter in nature.’ (from the Jury report Kunstliefdeprijs 2018)
Lou Vos graduated from the Utrecht School of the Arts in Fine Art. Since then she has worked as a visual artist and has her studio in Utrecht. In addition to her visual work, she is an organizer of art projects and, among other things, co-founder and ex-board member of and art blog writer for Art Utrecht.
