Photographer Hans Withoos, after his resounding exhibition
Another light on Withoos – Three generations Withoos
at Museum Flehite in Amersfoort, he has also released a short film, The world of Withoos. In this 12-minute experimental surrealist film, the sets of his photography come to life. We crawl into the mind of Withoos and carry along through his world where people and nature in the past and present come together, manifest and take you on a short immersive journey.

With this film, Withoos was winner Best editing and Best short film in Rome at the X world short film festival this summer of 2023. And at the Style international Fashion Film Festival in Los Angeles, he was winner Best experimental film.

Artists as Coach and Jury

On the television program Het Perfecte Plaatje, photographers Monique Roodenburg and Barend Houtsmuller were judges and coaches.

With the theme of nude and art photography, led by Houtsmuller, candidates had to delve into artistic nude photography. Photographing a nude model has been one of the most interesting subjects since time immemorial.

Houtsmuller left for the United States and Venice at age 25, apprenticing with well-known photographers such as Ansal Adams. His analog vintage photographs are auctioned at Christie’s Amsterdam and others but are also available through our gallery as is his contemporary photography.

Monique Roodenburg gave guidance in the television program as a coach on the topic of “What the F*ck,” among others. In it, contestants had to take a picture that surprised the viewer and made the viewer wonder what on earth they were looking at. WTF?

Really something of our time although of course these kinds of pictures and even paintings have always been made but the term is really of now.

Actually, pictures like this show surrealism in modern form. This is well seen in Roodenburg’s work. She strives in her work to take the viewer to another reality for a moment.
