‘Combining art and culinary turned out to be a fun formula.

SUMMER EXPODThe red pepper takes center stage at Galerie Sille in Oudewater. Artists started working on the theme months ago. The kickoff of the summer exhibition is complete in style.

It’s all about the art, but Saturday’s opening of the new exhibition at Gallery Sille is a complete event. There will be music, a sizable patio and spicy appetizers prepared on site. Owner Tamara Sille (36) packs quite a punch. Preparations began more than six months ago. Artists from around the country were tapped, local artists drummed up, and the caterer went to work on an appropriate menu.

The idea for the themed exhibition came about after last year’s success. “The Tour de France passed right by the gallery. We decided to create an exhibition around the theme of cycling. Not just paintings of bikes and photos of cyclists, but also contemporary, serious art. Outside we put up a terrace, in French style.”

It became a success. The positive responses poured in, and even the public who would otherwise walk past the gallery stepped over the threshold due to the accessible theme and relaxed atmosphere. “The combination of art and culinary turned out to be a nice formula, which we plan to return annually, always with a different theme.”

For this summer, the red pepper was chosen. “It’s a thing, though, that pepper. It’s small but it does something. Plus, you can use it as inspiration in a variety of ways in art. The link with food, drink and music is easily made.”
