Suiker X De Groot in duo exhibition Oct. 2024

Sille Gallery presents a new duo exhibition this fall.
Two unique artists Suus Suiker and Marthijn de Groot bring their worlds together.
De Groot represents an expressive and powerful visual language that unites two extremes.
Suiker, on the other hand, creates dreamy, layered landscapes in which nature, color and abstraction come together to form a harmonious symbiosis of technique and feeling.

The exhibition is on view Oct. 20 through Dec. 31. The grand opening will be on Oct. 20 at 3 p.m.
Both artists will also be present. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Marthijn de Groot

Marthijn de Groot struggled from a life in shadow and darkness to the light, which is reflected in his expressionist painting style.
For him, painting is a spontaneous action in which he integrates thoughts, experiences and past drawings.
He creates abstract-lyrical compositions, the expressive color schemes and an almost theatrical dynamism are characteristic of his works.
No matter how two-dimensional the canvas is, the artist manages to create a vivid spectacle.
The viewer plunges into a world you get lost in.
With figurative elements such as creatures that are half man, half animal and other mythical figures, painting is a spontaneous action for him.

But more than just painting happens.
With handwritten scripts, former (children’s) drawings and even patterns of stitching under the sewing machine, he makes his creations abstract-lyrical, strong and flamboyant.
In addition to painting, De Groot also works as a ceramicist.
This allows him to change his way of expression and realize three-dimensional drawings in sculptures.

Suus Suiker

Suus Suiker initially made mostly (magical) realistic painting, her attention was increasingly drawn to nature and the landscape.
In the pristine splendor of nature lies an endless resource.
Nature contains a wealth of images, colors, sounds and sensations that stimulate the imagination and feed creativity.
Each artwork is a unique scene with natural, realistic elements that use color and abstraction to balance the work.
Her work, mostly on panel, is increasingly growing into a contemporary form of impressionism in a mixed media: a symbiosis of paper, oil paint, chalk, ink and beeswax, sometimes combined with digital and/or photographic techniques.

The series “Symbiosis” perfectly combines encaustic material with natural floral themes, referring to contemporary impressionism.
Her work is powerful and strong, but at the same time shows a vulnerability in which people can not only lose themselves, but also find themselves.

This year her book Pura Natura – Symbiosis in encaustic was published.
