My name: Pimm van Mourik
Born on February 16, 1950 in Breda.
A summary of my career in creativity.
It started with a mother who gave me all the space to express my fantasy.
Favorite materials were modeling clay, colored pencils and Wasco chalk.
Primary school did not really stimulate my creativity.
In high school, an inspiring art teacher ensured that my interest moved more and more in the direction of creativity.
Ultimately, she was the reason to go to the Catholic Courses in Tilburg. I wanted to become an industrial teacher.
But after three turbulent years, in which the emphasis was often on extracurricular and administrative activities, I decided to quit.
The Academy in Den Bosch seemed like a better option to me and I wanted to do something more monumental but not sculpt. Stand construction and set design then.
But the blood is thick and it cannot go and I continued to interfere with matters that were only tangentially related to the study. Two years later I also hung up the lute there.
For another two years I tried to follow the Interior Architecture course via PBNA, but I missed the social contact with fellow students too much and the discipline to work alone was not yet sufficient.
Somewhat tired of training, I started working at various advertising agencies and printing companies. Still in the old techniques. Film montages, color separations, positive retouch. All wonderfully professional. Another aspect was technical perspective drawing. Exploded Views (expanded drawings in assembly order), ranging from drilling machines to drainage pipe laying machines, rolled out of my hand.
I eventually had my own printing company (small offset) and when it closed down I mainly worked in automation.
Throughout my busy life, I have always taken photographs. Nature, buildings (churches) and landscapes were the favorite subjects. People never. That's only been the case in recent years and that's where my heart has been since then. I approach and photograph the models myself and I also look for usable backgrounds at demolition sites, among other places.
And now all these areas of knowledge come together wonderfully.
I would like to describe it somewhat lyrically as follows:
First there were images and ultimate wonder. Any form of language was missing. Then there was language and words failed to explain the images. I focused on language because that was where the limitation lay. Now, a lifetime later, I throw myself into the images. A journey from language image to visual language. But what has remained for a lifetime is the amazement at the many images. Essentially nothing has changed. I have learned to create my own reality, both in language and in images.
Nothing is for nothing in life.
