Spontaneity and technique can get in each other’s way. In her work, Greetje Sieders takes on the challenge of connecting the two. It should appear playful, yet be crafted with skill.
The choice of materials is an artistic one; for her, it is not about their value… whether it is precious metal, a piece of sea glass, a found object, or something from her grandmother’s kitchen drawer, as long as it expresses the (sometimes narrative) character of her work.
She is trained as a goldsmith and may call herself a master goldsmith. She also completed studies in gemology and earned a teaching degree in drawing/art history. In addition to creating wearable art, she also makes wall objects and small sculptures, often applying traditional gold- and silversmithing techniques.
In her studio, she can spend endless hours patinating and shaping metals, enjoying the surprises that arise from the colors created by working acids into metal plates such as copper, brass, and zinc. Her work can be seen in galleries and at art fairs, and she also regularly works on commission.
