Fragile, vulnerable, fragile, sensitive, with great inner strength. These words describe the women in my work. The paintings are a tribute to the vulnerability of women. Vulnerable in her feelings about herself and her loved ones. Vulnerable in the openness with which she shows her emotions. And the strength needed to live life as a strong, self-confident woman.
This struggle between inner strength and almost tangible vulnerability fascinates me and I try to shape it through direct, coarse brushstrokes in contrast with finely worked details. With a lot of emphasis on the play between light and shadow. An intense and emotional encounter between image and viewer, a moment of recognition.
Even more incisive by working on a large format and increasingly with a contemporary and sustainable application of materials. I paint on used canvases, carpets and cardboard boxes, materials that give my paintings an extra layer and unique look, which fit very well in this day and age.
In addition to being an artist, I am also a woman, mother (of 5 sons) and a painting teacher.
