Monique is fascinated by shapes. Basic shapes, such as circles, but also human shapes. In her work she continually tries to give new dimensions to these shapes. She likes clean, simple lines and polished surfaces. And at the same time she plays with voluminous curves, which makes her images cuddly. The contrast between hard materials with straight lines and round, soft shapes creates tension. A dynamic that is almost palpable.
What inspires her? That’s difficult to say. Her inspiration mainly comes from within. Every time she feels the urge to make an image. And every time, such a basic form is her starting point. Of course she also sees things in the world around her that touch or inspire her. She uses that too. But the real inspiration comes from within.
Monique works on commission for private individuals, municipalities and project developers. She is also always busy with free work. She likes to work with different materials: steel, epoxy, bronze, aluminum. Each material has its own limitations. She always sees it as a challenge to create the shape she has in mind within those limitations.
