Slow Down – art at the pace of the Green Heart

In the Green Heart, where Sille Gallery is located, an open landscape of meadows stretches out. Around Oudewater, cows, sheep and the rhythm of the seasons still define the picture. For artist Hannes Verhoeven, these surroundings are a lasting source of inspiration. As a farmer’s son, he places these animals in a new context, in which current social themes resonate subtly but purposefully.

Standing still for a moment

In the sculpture Slow Down Verhoeven literally and figuratively slows down time. The work forms a hushed commentary on a world that is advancing ever faster. Where efficiency and productivity dominate, he turns his gaze to the countryside, where animals still live according to the rhythm of nature. The quick hare and the slow snail embody two extremes of movement and time.

Among these animals is a child, dressed in a simple onesie, in a meditative pose. The sculpture exudes peace and attention and invites the viewer to pause for a moment. In a world full of stimuli and performance pressure, the work calls for slowing down and conscious presence in the moment.

The sculpture is executed in marble composite and bronze. The marble composite, a mixture of resin, pigment and finely ground marble, gives the sculpture a soft, almost skin-like appearance. The bronze snail forms a warm and subtle accent, both material and symbolic.
