A couple of years ago, Olga Pullens commissioned herself to make 100 objects with a sphere, cube and frame.
Additional rules were restrictions in color, she was allowed to apply three colors with three different galn values.
-very matte black velvety glaze (developed by the cusnter herself)
-half matte white/beige terra sigillata (Roman glaze technique)
-high gloss yellow (industrial glaze)/p>
Within this Object Series, she developed the series Collapsed / Collapsed: cubes and spheres with parts dented or flattened. “I saw myself (…)sitting in my studio, overwhelmed and touched by everything that is happening in our world, far away and close by, and asked myself: what is my role, what do I bring to this world? That feeling caused me to push, press and strike my forms. Like a solidified physical expression of vulnerability and powerlessness. I glaze the works with terra sigillata, brushing with attention and rubbing until a pur, soft sheen appears on the surface. It is comforting myself through these actions.
Olga Pullens uses the elemental forms sphere and cube to arrive at objects in which simplicity and clarity are the keywords. In that respect, her work is in line with the direction known in the visual arts as geometric abstraction
Allowing intuition added a dimension that led to a more animated and, above all, personal art. This can be clearly seen in this work in which Olga Pullens manipulates and reworks the originally gifted cube and sphere, so that she has added a personal touch to these basic elementary forms of
