For artist Noortje Haegens, the walk is essential in her work. She is not so much concerned with the action of walking, but with the slowing down effect it has. Walking gives her a different view of the world. It allows her to slow down her perception and be in touch with the landscape in which she moves. She often stays in one place for a long time or returns to it regularly.
In the work ‘For a moment’ Noortje experiments with large soap bubbles in the landscape. The bright colors in these dreamy landscapes look modern, but the subject is based on a classic theme. From the sixteenth century onwards, artists have depicted children blowing bubbles to symbolize transience. The bubble almost bursting refers to this: it’s nice now, but that could easily be over.
Her work has been part of museum exhibitions: the Stedelijk Museum Breda, Kunstmuseum The Hague, the Zuiderzee Museum (Enkhuizen), the Van Abbemuseum (Eindhoven) and Het Noordbrabants Museum (Den Bosch), the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the Jan Cunen Museum (Oss). ).
