Suus Sugar beeswax paintings

By starting to work with beeswax, artist Suus Suiker had to take a whole new path. She abandoned the magical realist style in which she worked out the smallest details.

She chose contemporary impressionism combining the use of beeswax with ink, oil paint, paper and sometimes photographic techniques. For the work in the series “Symbiosis,” Suus deliberately chose to use beeswax and bind it with pure the pigments. As a result, the material fits the natural floral theme perfectly.

Sugar’s goal is to create a world that holds a certain poetry and in which all the elements together tell a story. Strong yet vulnerable.

I seek the deeper layer where all that was, all that is and all that will ever be joins together. This is how I create my world, lovingly, regardless of matter"

WITH PURE PIGMENTS FROM SUUS SUGAR

Beeswax, unlike many other mediums and varnishes, is a durable natural product. The wax is applied in several layers to a non-flexible substrate of Dibond and paper and fused together in between. This gives the work a strong depth effect. Polishing the wax makes the colors even more intense. Because of the use of very high quality pigments and the protective wax layer, the work remains colorfast for life.
