Irene van Vliet paints with yarns. She is a poetic storyteller and conjures beautiful tapestries with the Jacquard textile technique. A decorative magical world is created in her imaginative and colorful designs.

Innovation and tradition come together and offer a sense of peace and security with textile artist Irene van Vliet. It is a long craft process that precedes the realization of a textile product. The large woven wall hangings were created from her nature photography, drawings and her paintings.

Van Vliet uses her textile knowledge to guide the process of her designs being translated into the right material, use of color and new weaving techniques.

From autonomous concepts to a translation of textile art

Woven Wonders

A dream for Irene van Vliet came true when she released her own textile line called Woven Wonders.
Several tapestries were produced at the Textile Museum in Tilburg

Woven Wonders

The Woven Wonders line is distinguished by unique jacquard woven designs that I apply to wall hangings, grands foulards and folding screens. The rugs, woven with different types of yarns in the jacquard technique, are produced by the Textile Museum. Color, pattern and tactility come together in a unique form. Wall hangings are like paintings and have the added value of acoustic improvement in interiors.

Source of inspiration

“Nature is the main source of inspiration for me. I love the versatile decorative elements that occur in trees and flowers but also the visual stimulation and tranquility that nature gives me. I photograph and paint nature to then translate these images into my textile designs for Woven Wonders.”
